HEALTH AND SAFETY REVIEW CALLED FOR The Cambridgeshire County Council's safety review commission called for further checks on the region's 'professional vehicles', after it emerged some Limousine operators were overloading their vehicles. After these checks were made, the commission widened its net, and now includes checks on numerous other types of transport in the area, with the power to order vehicles off the road if they fail to meet standards. This comes after an air pollution survey conducted on Midsummer common on November 5th at 9:00pm discovered a high level of pollutants in the air of Cambridge. Now the Police are to be given new powers to give these notices if a vehicle is causing too many emissions, is unsafe, or is more than 15 years old. Despite claims of "Health and Safety madness" from some sections of the population, a commissioner stated "I saw a car today driving along with no provision for the safety and well-being of passengers in the rear. Seatbelts and airbags were non-existent and the car was far too old to be driving on our roads anyway. Here is a photo I took of it."
