THE GUN - THE ORIGINAL VERSION
Book 0: The Prequel
This was not made first, Book 1 was made first, if i remember correctly this was made between Book 7-Train Trouble, and Book 8-Bridge at Berlin. Anyway, this introduces the first world war as "The war to end all wars", correct, and the second world war as "The great war", actually that was another name for the first one. Then it gets to world war 3, the "Stealth war", and features one of the large flying transport ships, or "Queens" landing near a cliff in a desert, and letting out one very weird looking battle droid, with Steve Gunn driving it. Who says "Private Gunn has left the queen", an introduction to some of the highly cheesy dialogue in this comic. |

At the "Emny Defence" one of the enemy soldiers screams "What the hell is that?", before being blown away. Meanwhile someone with a rocket launcher shoots the mech from behind. Gunn escapes in some kind of escape pod just as it explodes, sets his gun to Silent (he doesn't have 'The Gun' yet, just the Ripper machine gun, which has 3 settings, slow fire, rapid fire and silent, dunno where it "grows" the silencer from but there you go.) One enemy soldier spots him but gets shot, silently, even though Gunn screams "DIE!" at him anyway. The guy getting shot says the first "Urg" in the strip, which is the sound made by many, many people when they die. Gunn grabs the radio he had and reports in that "The emny is dead", so the commander in the hidden base they where attacking opens the hatch and reveals a nuclear missile inside...dun dun dunnn!. As the sun sets Gunn reports that the battle is lost but they need reinforcements to attack the missile base. (It seems he was sent in the mech on his own... why send ONE person to take out a whole enemy base, even if he does have a hi-tech war machine, its one of the many very wierd decisions made in the comic). Anyway, by nightfall a load of Wolf Force soldiers show up to help Gunn, and they sneak up to the base. They spot a sentry gun and one soldier makes the strange statement "One wrong move and its bonfire night", why, does it shoot exploding multicoloured bullets?. Anyway it doesn't get a chance to shoot anything because they sneak up behind it and cut the wire between the camera and the gun... defeated by a pair of £3 Wilco's wire cutters! Then they chuck ropes down into the missile launching base and slide down inside to attack, a copy of the scene where the Ninjas attack the 'volcano' rocket base in that Bond film (i forget which one). |

Gunn comes down and shoots some barrels near a soldier, blowing him into the air, meanwhile a little monorail train goes past with a big gun on it and blasts a Wolf Force guy off his rope. Gunn chucks a grenade into it and blasts it to bits, meanwhile the battle rages on with the two sides either side of the room hiding behind the monorail track (where did all the ropes go?). Gunn gets up onto the gantry running around the room, and despite being extremely exposed up there nobody shoots at him. He does what is to become a series trademark of kicking down a door and spraying bullets into the room, he finds the plans and components for The Gun, which says "Fault: we don't have a decent machine gun to fit in". He decides the Ripper machine gun is the perfect candidate and sticks on the flamethrower and grenade launcher components, creating The Gun! |
He 'tests it' by blasting an enemy on the opposite gantry (but then he could have done that with a normal machine gun), and blasts down the door to the control room using the grenades. It kills a scientist, while Gunn uses the 'mini fireballs', which are a bit like flares, from the flamethrower component to dispatch the other bad guys. Then he finds a woman named Jackson, who was taken hostage by the enemies for no real reason. |

Meanwhile in the main battle the enemies scream "Long Live Stealth Force!", and the wolf force soldiers get pretty demoralised, then Gunn shows up and blasts them with a Grenade, before shooting a few more, the Wolf Force soldiers decide to fight back and kill the last two enemies, as Jackson emerges from a side-door for no reason other to remind readers she still exists. The Wolf Force survivors get on a big lift and Jackson operates the switch to take them to the surface. They fly off towards Britain in a space plane which is on auto-pilot, but a survivor in the base launches the Nuke! While Jackson looks very puppy-eyed at it taking off. |

Gunn runs to the controls and takes off the Auto-pilot, before blasting the Nuke out of the sky in a very Moonraker-like sequence. He flies into London (which has many damaged buildings, but Wolf Force flags everywhere), and lands at an airport. "The commander" congratulates him and says he'll be promoted, for no other reason than explaining why he is a corporal in the next story. Then Gunn goes "Commander, one other thing, how about space training, it wasn't easy up there!" I'll let that line speak for itself XD. |
